Geography
Malawi's most striking feature is the Rift Valley, which runs the entire length of the country from Lake Malawi in the Northern and Central regions, to the Shire Valley in the Southern Region. Lake Malawi covers 2.43 million hectares of Malawi's total area of 11.85 million hectares. To the west and south of the lake are fertile plains and high mountain ranges (heights below).

Climate
Malawi has two distinct seasons, a wet, warm season and a dryer, cooler season. The wet, rainy season runs from October to April, while the dry season runs from May to September.
